Bioneeds Laboratory Animals and Preclinical Services has invested $2 million for infrastructure expansion. This includes a canine (dog) unit. It is also in the process of completing its documentation for the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) certification.

Merck KGaA and its Merck Serono division together with partner Newron Pharmaceuticals SpA announced that the first phase III trial of investigational agent safinamide as adjunctive therapy to levodopa (study 016) met its primary endpoint by increasing daily "ON" time in mid- to late-stage Parkinson's disease patients with motor fluctuations by 1.3 hours. "ON" time represents periods when Parkinson's patients experience their best level of motor functioning.

Almost 25 years after the infamous Bhopal gas tragedy of 1984 in which thousands of people were killed, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is launching a research programme on the 'long term effect(s) of MIC gas , if any, on the Bhopal population, either exposed or affected (in December 1984)'.
