Ajanta Pharma announced a steady growth in standalone net profit for the quarter ended December 2008. During the quarter, the profit of the company rose 16.57% to Rs 45.97 million from Rs 39.44 million in the same quarter last year.
Net sales for the quarter rose 6.08% to Rs 748.37 million, while total income for the quarter rose 5.71% to Rs 748.37 million, when compared with the prior year period.
The company reported earnings of Rs 3.93 a share during the quarter, registering 16.62% growth over prior year period.
During the quarter, the operating margin of the company climbed by 395.91 basis points to 19.44% compared with the previous year period.
Interest cost increased 35.50% to Rs 51.86 million while depreciation cost rose 82.44% to Rs 33.02 million over previous year period.
Ajanta Pharma manufactures a wide range of therapeutic products covering segments like anthelmintics, anti-histaminics, antibiotics, cardiovasculars and anti-TB among others. Brands include Uniminth, Apmox, Apectrolyte etc.
Shares of the company gained Rs 0.25, or 0.48%, to settle at Rs 52.65. The total volume of shares traded was 3,074.00 at the BSE (Tuesday).
