GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (GSK), a leading MNC in India, has posted satisfactory performance during the second quarter ended June 2008. The company's net profit for the quarter increased by 19.1 per cent to Rs 114.86 crore from Rs 96.43 crore in the corresponding period of last year.

The net sales increased only by 5.4 per cent to Rs 416.90 crore from Rs 395.61 crore, but its other income went up sharply to Rs 13.14 crore from Rs 8.93 crore. This includes treasury income of Rs 9.14 crore.

For the first six months ended June 2008, GSK's net profit increased by 13.7 per cent to Rs 236.13 crore from Rs 207.75 crore in the similar period of last year. Its net sales increased by 2.2 per cent to Rs 888.38 croer from Rs 887.90 crore. Other income has taken a quantum jump of 84.9 per cent and touched to Rs 34.83 crore from Rs 18.84 crore. Earning per share worked out to Rs 27.9 for the first half of 2008 as compared to Rs 24.5 in the last period.

The company's net sales for the full year ended December 2007 reached at Rs 1577 crore and it earned a net profit of Rs 537.66 crore.
