The Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.R.K. Panneerselvam along with senior officials from the State Health Department met the Union Health Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss to discuss the ongoing healthcare programmes in the State under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and strengthening the mission further were discussed at the meeting.

Welcoming the State Health Minister, Dr. Ramadoss congratulated the Government of Tamil Nadu on managing one of the finest public health systems in the country. He said the resources of the NRHM has been very effectively utilized by the State administration to improve the quality of services available in Government health facilities in the State.

He further said that Tamil Nadu has set a very good example of making the public health sector so good that it has become the facility of first choice for many households. This shift is indeed remarkable as public system frequently criticized for poor quality services. The Minister appreciated the dramatic shift in institutional deliveries and other patient care services and the engagement of three staff nurses for round the clock in over 900 PHCs.

Dr. Ramadoss assured that funds will be released to the State under NRHM activities along with the ongoing programmes of the Ministry. He said availability of funds will not be a constraint for upgradation, strengthening and creation of facilities.

Congratulating the Health Minister of Tamil Nadu for having led this entire thrust on quality health services, Dr. Ramadoss said I am sure if the current thrust on healthcare in Tamil Nadu is maintains it will emerge as perhaps the finest example in the country in reaching health services to every household.
