Covidien, a provider of healthcare products, has launched Permacol biologic implant, a biologic mesh for hernia repair.
Permacol, which joins the company's line of products following the acquisition of Tissue Science Laboratories, is available in the US, Europe, Canada and Korea and will be registered in other markets starting in 2009.
Permacol biologic implant contains enhanced porcine collagen for complex hernias and abdominal wall repairs. The Permacol biologic implant, which is hydrated and ready-to-use, can be cut or shaped to size as needed and provides a stable, durable soft tissue repair, the company said.
Scott Flora, president of surgical devices at Covidien, said: "Covidien now offers the optimal hernia repair product for individual patient needs, including biologic implants, synthetic mesh, fixation and dissection devices."
