Elder Pharmaceuticals has suffered a setback during the third quarter ended December 2008 and its net profit declined sharply by 31.6 per cent to Rs 13.02 core from Rs 19.04 crore on account of higher interest and employees cost. The company's net sales improved by 11.1 per cent to Rs 153.68 crore from Rs 138.38 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The fall in profits, resulted into lower earnings per share of Rs 6.93 as against Rs 10.17 in the last period. The company's profit before interest, depreciation and taxation also declined by 10.8 per cent to Rs 27.39 crore.
The Company’s net sales for the first nine months of 2008-09 increased by 15.5 per cent to Rs 451.21 crore from Rs 390.61 crore in the same period of last year. However, its net profit moved down by 11. per cent to Rs 45.62 crore from Rs 51.38 crore in the last period, with earnings per share of Rs 24.28 as compared to Rs 27.44.
