Pharmaceutical Outsourcing Congress India 2009

"The Ideas Exchange” successfully launched the inaugural edition of the Pharmaceutical Outsourcing Congress India series last week.

Aimed at senior executives within the domestic and international Lifesciences sector, we were proud to host a truly international quality conference for the Indian market. Our thought-provoking content and innovative format was delivered by some of the most senior executives in the industry including:

  • Shrikumar Suryanarayan, Director General, ABLE
  • Dr KS Rao, Head of Corporate Development, Advinus Therapeutics
  • Shoibal Mukherjee, Sr. Vice President – Clinical Development, GVK Biosciences
  • D G Shah, Secretary General, Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance
  • SK Gupta, Dean & Director General, Institute of Clinical Research India
  • Dr Somesh Sharma, Managing Director, Piramal Life Sciences
  • Dhananjay Bakhle, Sr. Vice President, Reliance Clinical Research Services
  • Dr S P Vasireddi, Chairman & Managing Director, Vimta Labs
  • Ranga Iyer, Managing Director, Wyeth Ltd

And headlining the conference were the US FDA with Bruce Ross, newly appointed Country Director for India and his India team using the platform for their first formal conversation with the Indian pharmaceutical sector.

In total there were over 100 senior attendees over the course of the two days and two-thirds of attendees were Director Level of above representing what was described as over 50% of the leading authorities in Indian pharma.

The focus of the conference was establishing whether Indian can and will fulfil its potential of becoming a global hub for clinical research and trials. After two days of heated debates, a mood of optimism prevailed with the conclusion being that India can indeed become a global hub for research and trials work if the industry ecosystem is behind such a cause. And with a significant portion of the industry’s movers and shakers in the room championing such a cause few would bet against the Indian Pharma sector eventually achieving its full potential.
